There are several items you should research before purchasing property in Honduras:
- Interview prospective Realtors, and ask questions relating to the following:
- Their real estate background and experience (both in Honduras, as well as abroad),
- How long they have lived in Honduras (do they live here part time or year round),
- Their investments and listings (both what they are currently doing and have done in the past),
- Ask your Realtor to show you all legal documents related to buying a property in Honduras.
This enables you to:
- Become familar with the documents,
- Become aware of what documents to expect after closing.
- Research the property you intend to buy:
- Examine surveys to ensure you are getting what you want,
- Meet with the neighbors,
- Ask about weather through out the year (including wind and rain),
- Ask to meet with the attorney that will be handling your transaction and discuss their background and real estate experience.
Second, be sure to pay special attention to the terms and conditions you agree to when signing the agreement to
purchase your property. This is especially true when you are purchasing a home or condominium that is part of a large development and offers property management services.
